About The Ocean Stars Trust
The Ocean Stars Trust has been set up to provide relief to victims of the Tsunami in Sri Lanka and victims of the recent armed conflict.
Trustees
Bron Lambert
My name is Bron Lambert, and I am the newest member of the Trustees, joining the team as Fund-raising coordinator. Married to Richard since 1977, we have three grown-up children; Alexandra (25), Bill (23) and Toria (21). I have known about and supported Ocean Stars since its beginnings, and was part of Team 2008, which visited Sri Lanka last October. This made me want to do more and, with Dilanee’s help, I put together the Gift catalogue which has raised over £1000 so far. Another will be published later in the year – watch out for it and support Ocean Stars and their projects whilst you buy your Christmas presents.
John Bunter - Chairman
I am Dilanee’s husband. We married in 1987 and are proud parents of 3 teenagers at various stages of secondary and University education. I was brought up in the West Country but have worked as a teacher exclusively in the South-east. I am presently a Senior Teacher in a school in Camberley, Surrey, where I also teach French and German. As recreation I am involved in local sports clubs where the children are playing members. Ocean Stars Trust has just added that extra dimension. We honeymooned in Sri Lanka, and we also visited the country as a family in 2000, where we managed to watch a cricket test match at the stadium in Galle. Our next pictures of Galle were after the tsunami, when the pitch was engulfed in debris from the sea.
Janaki Jayasuriya
Hi! I’m Janaki and am Dilanee’s sister. I’ve had a varied career ranging from primary teaching to finance and most recently, human resources. Between 1992-1996, I worked on the Thai-Burma border for an organisation which provided education, training and income generating opportunities for refugee women and children from Burma. During those four years I gained invaluable experience in development work in the field. There are many parallels between the situation on the Thai-Burma border and in eastern Sri Lanka. I am currently employed as Administrator for Target Tuberculosis, a small international charity based in Brighton, and am responsible for finance and HR. I am also a Board member for The Burma Campaign, UK and attend Trustees’ meetings for Target Tuberculosis both of which have given me great insight into the governance of a charity. I feel honoured to be a trustee of Ocean Stars Trust which makes a real difference to people’s lives in Sri Lanka.
Shona Holroyd - Treasurer
My name is Shona Holroyd and I am the Treasurer for Ocean Stars and also one of the founding trustees. I have recently moved from Fleet to Aberdeen with my husband and two daughters. I am a qualified accountant, currently working as a Financial Controller for a major road safety charity based in Basingstoke and London. Prior to Ocean Stars, I have worked on a voluntary basis with various charities and sports associations. Previous professional experience includes working for BP Plc for over 14 years and over two years in public accounting practice.
Jo Barton - Secretary
Hi! I'm Jo Barton and I am the Secretary for Ocean Stars. I am married to John and have three children, Catherine (20), Chris (18) and Peter (14). I have been friends with Dilanee since moving to Fleet in 1991 and our children have all grown up together, so it felt only natural to become involved from the very beginnings of Ocean Stars. I work in Learning Support at a local secondary school and have previously been involved in fundraising for other charities and have held voluntary posts on school association fundraising committees.
Dilanee Bunter - Founder
Hi I’m Dilanee Bunter and I was born in Sri Lanka and lived there until I was 15 years old. When the Tsunami happened on 26th Dec 2004, I felt I wanted to do something personal to help the people of Sri Lanka rebuild their shattered lives. Friends and relatives in Sri Lanka introduced me to various post Tsunami relief projects and so the Ocean Stars Trust was born.I work as a teacher and a counsellor for the Education Other Than at School (EOTAS) Service of Hampshire County Council.
