Fundraising

Since it’s beginnings in the early days after the tsunami hit Sri Lanka on Boxing Day 2004, Ocean Stars has raised over £100,000 to help those affected. More recently, the needs have changed to include families affected by the recent civil conflict. Ocean Stars tries to make a difference to the ordinary people in Sri Lanka, and this has cost a lot in time, energy and, of course, money.

We would like to thank all those who have supported us in any way with raising this fantastic total! However, for the work to continue we need your ongoing support and donations. If you have any ideas about ways to raise money, please contact Bron Lambert (01252 620972 bron_lambert@yahoo.co.uk) and we will do everything we can to help you with your fundraising efforts.

Remember, it all counts – from as little as 50p to hundreds of pounds, we are very grateful for all the donations we receive and will put them to good use in Sri Lanka.

City of Stirling 10k
The City of Stirling 10k in Sept 2008 seemed a great opportunity to raise some funds for Ocean Stars Projects in Sri Lanka and raise the profile of Ocean Stars Trust in Scotland. Helen Oliver convinced 3 mates(Calum,Jo,Ian) to join her and raise funds for OST. With a connection through Helen sponsoring a child in Trincomalee in the NE of the country, it was agreed with the Trust, that funds raised would go direct to China Bay, Trincomalee, an area severely devastated by the Tsunami. This gave the team purpose to attract as many sponsors as possible.Total collected from this event with gift aid and Cairn Energy making a great contribution of £400 was over £1839. All funds raised has set up a much needed prenatal health clinic for the local China Bay community. Ocean Stars presence in Scotland had been born. After the success of 2008,we have convinced 6 others to join us for City of Stirling 10k 2009! Helen is hoping to return in July 2010 to China Bay where once again money raised will go towards a specific requestthat will benefit the lcal community. If you would like to sponsor Helen please refer to: http://www.justgiving.com/Stirling10k4OceanStars/ and then follow the instructions online. It is safe and secure! Photos

After returning from the Ocean Stars Trip to Sri Lanka in Autumn 2008, Helen Oliver delivered presentations about Ocean Stars and the trip to friends and also colleagues within the Dept of Access and Progression at Forth Valley College in Falkirk. Tears were shed and offers of sponsorship were forthcoming with 17 friends and colleagues committing to supporting a child or teacher. Alongside this, staff within the Dept. organised a Christmas Sri Lankan dinner, chose to make a donation instead of sending Christmas cards, and donated money raised from the purchase of homemade chutney to Ocean Stars raising £270. Getting involved did not stop there though as with the support of Maggie Baird,a group of students raised £195 through a recycling project in their Building Futures course. Their efforts too helped raise the profile of Ocean Stars locally as the local newspaper the Falkirk Herald published their success story. OST was also selected by a group of Business students also with this group raising an additional £125 for the charity.
